After 10 years living in Australia, I visited my hometown Berlin! What a journey. Berlin is named the vegan capital in the world. And it sure is. I only had a stay for 18 days. This was FAR to short. I had so many shops and restaurants on my list, but I was not able to visit all of them. Well, a very good reason to plan the next trip to Berlin.
After 10 years it was very exciting for me to be in my hometown. A lot of things changed and I felt very different than the day, I left Berlin. Well, to start at the beginning --- already our flight to Berlin was great. I mean, the LONG flight was less a pleasure, but the fantastic vegan food made it pretty enjoyable. And for the first time we got benefits as vegans. You get a sticker on your seat to show the crew you are on a "special diet". Before everyone gets food, all the people with special needs get thier food served! That was a great feeling. Some people around us looked a bit strange --- I think they thought "why get this people food, and I get nothing", hihi.
Well, we were really surprised about the food on board. We expected nothing special, but the food actually really was good. We enjoyed everything they served us! On our flight to Berlin the food was great, on our flight back to Bris, it even was fantastic. Just have a look at the pictures --- and both flights had different dishes. So they really think about what to serve people. A big THANKS to Singapore Airlines for this fantastic service!
Singapore Airline kitchen gets 5 stars out of 6 from me (there is always space for improvement) - well done and I am looking forward to the next flight.

Restaurant Number 1 : Samadhi
Let's start with my first experience at a restaurant. We went to a sightseeing tour with our family. Alexander Platz, Unter den Linden, Brandenburg Gate ... and afterwards to this fantastic vegan & vegetarian restaurant. It is located at:
Wilhelmstrasse 77
10117 Berlin
Tel: 030 / 2248 8850
Here the link to thier webpage: _http://www.samadhi-vegetarian.de/
When we were looking for the restaurant, we even found a sign on the street, which showed the way to the restaurant! The restaurant is close to the Hotel Adlon.

When we arrived, the restaurant staff gave us a friendly greeting. Everything looked clean and nice. There also is a nice outdoor area, but at this stage of the year, it was to cold to sit outside.
The restaurant was really good visited, a lot of people enjoyed thier lunch. The menu shows a good range of vegan dishes. Also some vegetarian dishes can also be ordered vegan. But 98% of the menu are vegan dishes. The food is asian based, vietnamese and thai. Dishes are served with rice.
The range is a good selected asian journey.
There is something for everyone, even for our non vegan parents :-)
Which by the way, really very much enjoyed the food!
The order got out pretty quick --- The food was also served in a good time manner. Everything looked just AMAZING! And it tasted like it looked. This is a restaurant I give 5,8 stars out of 6 --- just 5,8 because it is not a complete vegan restaurant. My recommendation for the Samadhi restaurant:
When you love asian food, this is THE place to go! I would visit it again and again --- I only can speak positive for this!
Here is the second report for a really great restaurant\cafe\bistro in Berlin.
We discovered this great bistro when we actually ate our fantastic vegan Currywurst at the Bergmann Curry. Whilst eating, I had a look straight accross the street and what I saw was a big sign what told me "vegan". What, really --- haha, how great is this. I love this street! Unfortunately that day I enjoyed a really big plate with currywurst, curry-rissol and chips. There was no space for another plate of food. So I had to return to check this bistro out. When we returned to the Bergmannstrasse, my plan was ... to show my partner, who was one week not in Berlin, the best vegan currywurst ever. The first time I went with my mum. So we went to the Bergmann Curry to have just one currywurst and to check out afterwards, the Planet Veganus. But, it was on a Monday and Mondays the Bistro is closed. What a shame,... we had to return again, hehe. At that point of my visit I really enjoyed the complete Bergmannstrasse, because we also discovered a mexican restaurant with vegan options (will be in my report as well) and the Veganz with the bistro\cafe --- and another vegetarian\vegan imbiss with mediterrainean food. You see, I really was busy just in that street!
But now the Planet Veganus Bistro.
http://www.planet-veganus.de/
This Bistro offers a great range of German and international food. German cuisine, turkish and greek cuisine. Perfect. I actually didn't know what to order, because everything really just looked great. We decided to stay on the German page. At this point we hadn't found any German restaurants with vegan options.
The dishes we had were "vegan duck with dumplings, red cabbage, gravy and a salad" and "Zegeniner Gulasch with rice and salad". Both dishes were really enjoyable. You could not complain for this prices at all! Both dishes were charged 6,90 Euro. So an absolut good price for what you get.
The Bistro itself is rather small. You can enjoy your meal inside, or outside. You also can enjoy a cold beer.
The staff is very friendly and was very open for my request to take pictures of the bistro and write a report!
Thanks for that and we for sure will visit you again at our next visit in Berlin :-)
Out of 6 stars I give this one 5 stars! Why 5? There is always room for improvement B-)
Let's go to my personal favorite --- BERGMANN CURRY!
Why my favorite? Because Berlin without a Currywurst is like going to Italy and not have a Pizza!
Or going to Greece and not have Zaccici and Gyros.
So, I HAD TO find an imbiss which sells vegan currywurst. And I found one. A FANTASTIC one! I first went with my mum. She isn't a vegan, but was very open to also have a vegan currywurst. When we arrived at this imbiss, I was very delighted to see, that the vegan options are even marked twice at this little shop. First right above the corner and second right next to the entry. And, they not only offer currywurst, also curry rissol, burger, mayo and sweet potato chips. Ok, I passed on the sweet potato chips, I simply wanted some golden fried, crispy potato chips to my sausage AND a rissol. I always was a lover of the curry rissol - so I had one sausage, one rissol and potato chips. Mum just had the currywurst, but had a bite from my rissol as well. And,.. we both were fascinated! WOW - was that really vegan??? I was not sure, haha - the taste was just so good, I could not believe it. Mum even was so impressed she said, the next time she wants a Currywurst, she will go to this place for a vegan option one. GREAT.
But it was true --- it was all vegan we ate. I was SO delighted, I had to go with my partner, who was that week not in Berlin, again. So I went again for a currywurst. My sweetheart was so amazed as well, he was so keen to get the supplier of this amazing sausage ---
Anyway ---- This was so good, even with our limited time in Berlin, we decided to go a third time to the Bermann Curry.
We actually had other restaurants on the list, but we wanted the Bergmann Curry again. With a friend, who came over from Dresden to visit me. This friend is not a vegan --- and, ... he also loved this Currywurst. My sweetheart and him ate a Currywurst in Dresden, which was a disaster. Well, he first was not keen to go for another Currywurst --- but, I only could say "trust me". Well, of course I was correct and he said between the Dresden and Berlin Currywurst is a HUGE difference. Already with the tomato sauce.
Well, of course it is --- Berlin makes the BEST curries EVER.
The secret in a good currywurst lays in the sausage itself and the tomato sauce. When the sauce is not right, the complete meal is not that good. Thanks god I know how to make the perfect tomatosauce for this great fast food, hehe.
Please check out for all informations you need, like address etc, their webpage:
(like you can see, even John Goodman enjoyed a currywurst there)
http://www.bergmann-curry.de/
So far, all I have to say is --- thanks so much! I so enjoyed this imbiss. I also felt pretty good about the guys who work behind the counter. A typical open Berlin guy. Friendly with his typical Berlin dialect and straight in your face, haha. I love it. We for sure will be back!!!
Out of 6 stars I give the Bergmann Curry 6 stars for thier fantastic vegan options

The next restaurant I want to talk about is the "Aaina - Singapore Restaurant" in Tempelhof. This is not a vegan restaurant, but it has some really great vegan options! Friendly waiters, a really great ambiente and just a great atmosphere. Already when you enter the restaurant, a lovely incense cone aroma comes to your nose.
Check out their webpage for pictures and "about"

I discovered this restaurant on my way from my parents to the shopping centre. The menu also shows you straight away the vegan options. The day I checked, one of the waiters was just staning outside --- and I ask him, to make sure there are vegan options, if it's vegan. He friendly replied that they have vegan options and also can make some non vegan dishes, vegan. Perfect, see ya later!

I went with my mum and my best friend to the restaurant. Mum also ordered a vegan dish (yeayyyy), my best friend didn't. I already was pleased when I checked on the menu online --- it was not advertised as "vegan options" or "vegan friendly" like you often see, no, this one was advertised as "vegan cuisine". I liked that pretty much. It shows that it is far more than just an option. And that's what vegan is ---
it is simply so much more! So, thumbs up for the restaurant to present it this way.
Like in every German restaurant, you get served an entry on the house. We got Poppadams and dips. For main I had a red Curry with veggies and crispy fried tofu. Mum got a green curry with eggplant and also fried tofu. In every German restaurant you also get a salad on the side and rice. That always indluded into the dish. And afterwards, before you pay, you get a little drink on the house as well. I actually enjoyed the German restaurants so much ---
We all enjoyed this restaurant and it is a great options when you look for a restaurant what is special AND has vegan dishes. I felt pretty good. Also mum and my friend.
I give this restaurant out of 6 stars --- 5,5 stars.
Well done guys!
My next stop and visit was very close to were my parents life, where I grew up. This is a small, little restaurant where you can have quick mediterrain dishes. It is not a vegan restaurant, but the range of vegan options is pretty good. It is homecooked. The lady who hosted us was very friendly and allowed me to take pictures. You find cooked meals and salads - rice and bread. Good prices for nice food. That day we got a nice mediterrain cauliflower curry presented. We choose salads as well and got it served with rice. The food was really a lot and we enjoyed it. The food itself was ok. For our taste we would loved to have more herbs and spices in the food. But it was so pleasant to see vegan options so close to my parents home --- there for sure is a change in Berlin :-)
But I visit this place again? Yes.
Cauliflower curry (mediterrain), potato salad, lentil salad, cous cous salad, big beans, olives, rice --- delicous!
Unfortunately the small restaurant does not have a webpage. I also could not find a Facebook page. So this is a place to go, when you are in this area. Berlin Mariendorf - Mariendorfer Damm between Eisenacher Strasse and Westphalweg.
Out of 6 stars I give this shop 3,8 stars
